Pollution Under Control Certificate violation in Delhi: More than 1,000 e-notices sent in two days

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government’s transport department has sent more than 1,000 ‘e-notices’ in the last two days to owners of vehicles that are due for a pollution check. The recipients got a week’s time to get their vehicle checked and get a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, failure of which would invite an e-challan of Rs 10,000.

“We have sent SMSes on the registered mobile number of all these vehicle owners. We started sending the e-notices from Wednesday but not many could be sent on Thursday due to some problem with internet connectivity,” a government official said.

Apart from the fine of Rs 10,000, failure to possess PUCC may also lead to imprisonment of up to three months and disqualification from holding a driving licence for three months.

The official said that there are over 15 lakh vehicles with pending pollution checks. The department will send 1,000 to 1,500 e-notices every day to owners of such vehicles.
