Pollution alert at Welsh beach after dead fish are seen in water

People have been urged to avoid bathing at a popular beach for 72 hours after a "pollution" incident. A number of dead fish have been spotted in the water off the beach. Natural Resources Wales is investigating and people have been urged not to bathe there for now.

The Isle of Anglesey Council has issued the warning after a suspected "slurry incident" at Cemaes Bay on the north coast of Anglesey, North Wales Live has reported.

The council said: "Natural Resources Wales is today responding to an incident at Afon Wygyr, Cemaes Bay, Anglesey. NRW staff are onsite investigating what we believe to be a slurry incident which could affect bathing water quality in the short term and has resulted in a number of dead fish.

"Isle of Anglesey County Council has been informed and is advising against bathing at Cemaes Beach for up to 72 hours. Signage is currently being erected." You can get more story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.
