Pollokshields fire: Urgent appeal for donations to help families displaced by blaze

Dozens of families have been displaced as a result of a fire in Pollokshields.

A local community hub in the area is appealing for the public to donate clothes for the residents who were forced to flee the building on McCulloch Street without any of their possessions.

Firefighters remain on the scene of the blaze which saw nine fire engines dispatched to the three-storey block of flats just before 1.15pm this afternoon.

The Bowling Green has said that 15 families have been displaced and are currently waiting at the hub while arrangements are made to house them.

In a statement posted on Facebook, they said: "We have small children and adults who have nothing but the clothes on their backs just now. If you could help out by donating clothes and shoes as well as to see folk through tonight that would be great."

They've asked for size 8 men's shoes or trainers, children's size 7 shoes for girls, and size 9 for boys. They're also asking for men's clothes in a size medium and women's clothes in different sizes.

It's currently unknown whether anyone has been injured as a result of the blaze.

Scottish Fire and Rescue have been contacted for an update.
