Pollokshields and Dalmarnock residents asked to take Covid test 'to help get Glasgow out of Tier 4'

Residents living in Pollokshields and Dalmarnock are being asked by Glasgow City Council to take a Covid-19 test to 'help save lives and get Glasgow out of the current Level 4 restrictions'.

The council confirm they have chosen both areas as part of their mass asymptomatic community testing pilot scheme due to 'higher than average Covid infection rates'.

The council say that if they can understand why infection rates in both areas are higher than elsewhere, it will help them take measures to drive down infection rates across the city.

They tweeted: "We're asking people in Dalmarnock and Pollokshields to take a quick, free Covid 19 test to help save lives and get Glasgow out of Tier 4 restrictions. People with no symptoms could be carrying the virus without knowing".

The pilot mobile testing centres have been set up in Pollokshields in a large car park on Albert Drive, opposite the Tramway Theatre and in the Emirates Arena car park for people to take the free test.

The council only want people who show no Covid-19 symptoms at all to get tested, with anyone who has any of the main Covid -19 symptoms such as a fever (high temperature), a new, continuous cough or loss of taste and/or smell asked to instead book a test through the NHS.

The centres will be open from 9am to 6pm every day from tomorrow until December 9.
