Polling stations close across Scotland as results to be announced tomorrow

Polling stations have closed across Scotland in one of the most significant election campaigns since devolution in 1999.

Candidates from all political parties have worked hard to secure your vote as the country elects 129 MSPs to Holyrood.

Stations were open from 7am this morning and closed bang on 10pm.

Counting in elections in the UK normally takes place overnight, however that won't be the case this time due to the pandemic.

Many constituency results will be announced tomorrow afternoon, while all the regional lists are expected on Saturday.

Nicola Sturgeon (SNP), Anas Sarwar (Labour), Douglas Ross (Tories), Willie Rennie (Lib Dems), Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater (co-leaders of the Greens) will be eagerly awaiting the results as they look to return as many MSPs as possible.

As Scots headed to the polls the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for snow in the north of Scotland.

It was the first time since 2015 it has issued a snow warning in May in the UK.

Polling day passed without any real incident, however SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon was confronted by far-right bigot Jayda Fransen outside a polling station in Glasgow.

The unsavoury incident saw Sturgeon brand her a "fascist and a racist".
