An enormous pollen bomb could hit Scotland this week and cause misery for those who suffer from hay fever.
Hot weather followed by a bout of rain has resulted in the perfect conditions for grass to flourish.
This also means that the grass pollen - which affects 90 per cent of hay fever sufferers - is expect to soar.
Hay fever is expected to affect around 18 million people in the UK.
Max Wiseberg, creator of HayMax allergen balm, told The Mirror: “Wetter weather forecast for the next few days, after the long dry spell, will cause grass to flourish.
"It will produce loads more pollen, triggering a huge pollen explosion from Monday.”
A Met Office poll of 2,000 this year revealed 41 per cent suffer so badly it ruins their whole summer.
Pollen is also a top trigger for asthma attacks with an estimated 3.3million could be affected in the UK.
The pollen count shows low to medium levels in Scotland today with higher levels down south.
The grass pollen count is expected to increase later in the week in warmer weather.
Hay fever - seasonal allergic rhinitis - is an allergy caused by pollen grains released during the pollen season which normally runs from March to November in the UK.
Common hay fever symptoms include sneezing, runny or blocked nose, itchy eyes, mouth and throat.
Less common hay fever symptoms are headaches and hives.
Doctors advise sufferers to use nasal rinses and avoid grassy open spaces, especially in the early morning and early evening when pollen levels are highest.
