Pollen bomb to hit Edinburgh and the Lothians this week with five days of hayfever hell

Edinburgh and the Lothians are set to be hit with an explosion of pollen from 24 June onwards which will wreak havoc for Hayfever sufferers.

Lower levels of pollution combined with warm weather and rain have made Edinburgh and the Lothians the perfect breeding ground for allergy-causing pollen to thrive.

Hayfever sufferers are set for a week of horrendous conditions as the Met Office has issued a 'very high' warning for pollen in Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian and the Borders.

From Wednesday 24 June until Saturday Edinburgh and the Lothians is on red alert for pollen.

The 'pollen bomb' will be particularly miserable for those allergic to grass pollen, with nettle, dock with fungal spores also posing a risk.

The main symptoms of Hayfever are sneezing, runny or blocked nose, itchy eyes, mouth and throat - although mostly harmless it can be dangerous for people with asthma or other respiratory diseases.
