Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger signed a contract extension this offseason to keep him on the roster through 2021. But what happens after that? If we assume Roethlisberger rides off into the sunset after 2021, who will run the show the following season? This is the question we pose today.
Right now the backup spot is going to be a battle between Josh Dobbs and Mason Rudolph. Both are talented and have a ton of potential, but there could be a problem with the contracts. The Steelers can’t re-sign both if they both think they should start.
The most likely answer is the two duke it out through 2020 and the best one gets a new deal and the other walks. But if neither guy steps up or if both demand too much money, the player to replace Roethlisberger might not even be on the team yet.
