Running back Dalvin Cook is reportedly refraining from team activities until he receives a revised contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Cook is a vital part of the Vikings’ offense, but he also has been injury-prone, while playing a position that is one of the more physically punishing in football.
He’s coming off a 2019 where he had 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s clearly very good when healthy, but he’s also missed 19 games in a three-year career. Granted, one of those games was against the Bears in Week 17 of this past season, where reserves played due to a lack of playoff implications.
Chad Graff of The Athletic said Cook isn’t asking for money on-par with Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey’s yearly average of $16 million.
Graff reported that Cook is looking for money more like what David Johnson is getting, so about $13 million, which a report from ESPN’s Courtney Cronin corroborates.
Overall, Cook is a good player but he has his question marks and teams have been burned in the past by giving big extensions to running backs. So what will it be, Vikings fans? If Cook needed more than $10 million, do you think he should stay with Minnesota?
