After the Chargers were hit with a handful of injuries, there was some doubt from fans that they wouldn’t be able to make it to the playoffs. But after facing defeat to a previously winless team, which gave fans flashbacks to a few seasons back, the confidence meter appears to be dropping.
Los Angeles now sits at 2-3 heading into Week 6 and at the moment, there isn’t a lot of reason for optimism after witnessing the performance against the Broncos on Sunday.
You can say that the outcome would’ve been different if the team had safeties Derwin James and Adrian Phillips among others, but yesterday’s game didn’t come down to the players that were missing.
The loss was a result of questionable offensive play calling, terrible time management, missed tackles and a few other miscues. But the thing is, fans haven’t witnessed a game like this in quite some time and because of it, they’re uncertain if their favorite team will be able to bounce back from this.
The first five games of the Bolts’ schedule was considered the easy portion of it and now this is where things get tough. The Chargers will host a 1-4 Steelers team that’s down to their third-string quarterback, but they still have enough fire power to take down Los Angeles.
After this upcoming weekend, they will be tasked with defeating teams like the Chiefs twice, Bears, Vikings and Packers. Even though the Chargers have shown they are capable of coming out victorious against the best, can they overcome the errors which have been ongoing the past couple of weeks?
Players like James, Phillips and offensive tackle Russell Okung should be coming back soon, but until then, coach Anthony Lynn’s team will be faced with playing with what they got and it’s all going to come down to executing.
