The Chargers drafted former Notre Dame defensive tackle Jerry Tillery with the No. 28 overall selection.
Many experts were expecting Los Angeles to select Tillery throughout the pre-draft process. It was a positional need, he fits what the team looks for and it was likely that he would be available when they were on the clock.
Even though he received mixed reviews, Tillery was a Chargers Wire’s favorite among those who were mocked to the Bolts at No. 28. His insane athleticism for his size and ability to create immediate movement to disrupt the backfield was exactly what the team needed, even though there were supposed character concerns.
After the selection of the playmaking defensive tackle, the interior part of the defensive line is looking more promising, but I wouldn’t say it has been solidified since the depth chart is still rather thin with Brandon Mebane and Justin Jones as the only other reliable options at the moment.
