Poll: Fleming and Boustany fall short in Louisiana Senate race

Republican Reps. John Fleming and Charles Boustany are looking less and less likely to make it to a runoff in the Louisiana Senate race in December according to a new poll.

In Louisiana, the top two candidates make it to the Dec. 10 runoff race. Republican State Treasurer John Kennedy leads the Senate race, with 22 percent of support, according to a Southern Media & Opinion Research poll.

Democratic Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell comes in second place with 16 percent. Boustany is now at 14 percent compared to September, when he reached a statistical tie with Kennedy. Fleming trails Democratic lawyer Caroline Fayard.

The poll was conducted between Oct. 19 and 21. It surveyed 500 likely voters and has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

The race to replace outgoing Sen. David Vitter is rated "Safe Republican" by the Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call.
