Poll finds Americans primarily use the internet to browse, pay bills, and shop

  • A recent poll by telecommunications firm Optimum revealed that Americans spend over 10 hours daily online, accounting for approximately half their day.
  • The survey of 2,000 adults indicated that around five hours are dedicated to watching videos, with 5.4 hours spent on other online activities.
  • Primary online activities include browsing (79%), paying bills (77%), online shopping (72%), and doom scrolling on social media (73%), with significantly less time allocated to work or school.
  • Over half (55%) of respondents prefer streaming videos on a television, while more than 40% favor using their phone for general online tasks.
  • The findings highlight the crucial importance of robust, affordable, and dependable internet in modern life, despite some prior research suggesting even higher online usage.
