Poll finds even Trump supporters want Ebola aid restored

  • A new poll indicates that three-quarters of Americans support restoring U.S. disease prevention aid to address the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
  • Support for restoring aid is widespread, with 52 percent of those who identify as supporters of President Donald Trump also backing the measure.
  • The survey, conducted by Echelon Insights, found 90 percent of respondents supported funding overseas disease prevention programs and 72 percent favored restoring global health funding worldwide.
  • These findings come despite the Trump administration's significant cuts to foreign aid last year, which included the closure of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
  • Experts suggest that the abrupt cuts to US and Western foreign support have exacerbated the Ebola outbreak, which has surpassed 500 deaths and threatens other countries.
