Poll claims 42% of the public rate Jeremy Corbyn 0/10 for his leadership

A poll has claimed that the public would back Emily Thornberry over Rebecca Long Bailey - at least when it comes to how good they think Jeremy Corbyn was at his job.

Ms Long Bailey said Mr Corbyn's performance was "10/10" this week.

Ms Thornberry said losing the election means that the Labour leader had to be rated "0/10".

Well pollster YouGov decided to ask the public to weigh in - and the result was pretty decisive.

A snap poll today by YouGov  showed that 42% of the public give Jeremy Corbyn 0/10 for his leadership.

By far the most popular choice in the poll.

Asked to rate Mr Corbyn, Ms Thornberry told Sky News: "I remain convinced that Jeremy is not antisemitic.

"But I think that clearly we completely failed when it came to dealing with antisemitism in the party, and that was a failure of leadership.

"And Jeremy knows my views on this.

"And I’m afraid I would not give him more than 2 out of 10 in relation to that."

But she did praise Mr Corbyn for his principle - if not his achievements at the ballot box.

She added: "But when it comes to principle, bringing people into the party, firing up the party, bringing us back to speaking from our hearts, I would give him 10 out of 10.

"Losing an election is probably the most important thing by which you would measure a leader, and obviously we lost very, very badly.

"And on that basis, I would give him on that nought out of 10.

"What else could I do."

But left wing standard bearer Ms Long Bailey heaped praise on Mr Corbyn, and laid blame for Labour's defeat elsewhere.

She told ITV News earlier this week: "I thought Corbyn was one of the most honest, kind, principled politicians I've ever met.

"I'd give him 10 out of 10, because I respect him and I supported him all the way through.

"What we can't ignore was that Jeremy was savaged from day one by the press ... We have a role as party to develop the image of our leader and to put them forward in the most positive way, but we also have a duty to rebut criticism and attacks.

"As a party we needed to have a rebuttal unit, a clear structure in place to rebut the attacks against him."
