Politics Weekly: Students walk out as education gets a shake-up

Students and pupils around the UK walked out of classes to protest against a hike in university tuition fees on the same day that Michael Gove, the education secretary, announced sweeping changes to schools policy.

Measures include a slimming down of the national curriculum and greater independence for headteachers. But will the policies have the desired effect of increasing social mobility - and who's paying?

Also this week: Ed Miliband returned to the commons amid murmurs of discontent about his leadership. And Conservative backbenchers were restless over the government's obligations to bail out countries in the eurozone.
