Politics Weekly podcast: who'd be a party leader?

Polly Toynbee, Michael White and Andrew Gimson join Hugh Muir to discuss the position of the three main party leaders as they head towards the autumn party conference season.

David Cameron has faced hostile criticism from backbenchers who have variously suggested that he's an "arrogant posh boy", a "chambermaid for the Lib Dems" and half way between man and mouse. What can he do to keep them quiet?

Nick Clegg has been faced with polling figures showing his party is split on whether they'd be better off without him.

And Ed Miliband is rumoured to be at loggerheads with his shadow-chancellor (although the rumours have yet to reach Michael White and Polly Toynbee).

Meanwhile across the pond at the Republican convention in Florida, Ewen MacAskill finds no great enthusiasm for presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
