Politics Weekly podcast: The welfare trap and the mid-term review

Parliament returned this week to debate the divisive issue of welfare. A vote forced by the government on the level of benefits afforded to those of working age may have been a ploy to put Labour on the spot - Ed Miliband is opposed to a below-inflation settlement, even though most voters say they are not. The topic appears to have united the Labour benches with David Miliband denouncing the bill as "rancid".

In the studio to discuss this are the Guardian columnists Martin Kettle and Aditya Chakrabortty and the former Labour press spokesman and political blogger Hopi Sen.

Also this week the Nick Clegg and David Cameron provided a mid-term report on their joint pledges set out in the coalition agreement of 2010. They have marked their own work generously - but there appeared to be significant omissions and a certain coyness where the economic pledges were concerned.

And finally our panelists give their predictions for 2013 on Britain's credit rating, the eurozone crisis and the emergence of Labour's economic strategy.

Leave your thoughts and predictions below.
