Politics Weekly podcast: Obama v Romney

With Westminster MPs on their summer break from parliament we focus this week on the US presidential election race.

Mitt Romney is in London this week as part of a foreign tour that will include the UK, Poland and Israel. Meanwhile Barack Obama is using the time to heap more attacks on his opponent via televised ads.

In the studio this week: Washington reporter Richard Adams is alongside Guardian columnists Jonathan Freedland and Hadley Freeman.

The campaign so far has been bitter: Romney's time leading a private equity company has come under scrutiny and the stubbornly high unemployment rate has caused Obama grief.

The election on November 6 is likely to be tightly contested and experts predict it will be won and lost in a handful of key 'battleground' states.

In the short term however, as Richard Adams points out, all Americans (especially Democrats) just hope that Mitt Romney's horse wins Olympic gold in the dressage event...
