Politics Weekly podcast: Nick Clegg's conference speech

Nick Clegg used his annual party conference speech to tell his fellow Liberal Democrats that they were a natural party of government and that their presence alongside the Conservatives has yielded several achievements. He also made clear that he would be open to coalitions with either Labour or the Conservatives after the election in 2015.

Joining Hugh Muir for the podcast this week are columnists Martin Kettle and Michael White and Patrick Diamond of the Policy Network thinktank.

All eyes will be on Ed Miliband when he delivers his own keynote speech at next week's Labour party conference in Brighton. With Miliband's personal ratings persistently lower than Cameron's there will be pressure on him to make a deeper connection with voters, but Labour still lead many polls and look on course to make gains in 2015.

Also this week, we look ahead to next week's election in Germany where Angela Merkel is on course for a third term as chancellor.

Plus was David Cameron wise to defend the use of the word 'Yid' by fans of Tottenham Hotspur?
