Politics Weekly podcast: David Cameron and nudge politics

In Politics Weekly this week, Nick Watt asks whether David Cameron's 20-point lead in the opinion polls means that he should now be measuring the curtains in Downing Street. Following an exclusive interview with the Conservative leader in the Guardian this week, the panel scrutinises Cameron the man, his policies and his philosophies.

Simon Hoggart, the Guardian's parliamentary sketchwriter, says that Cameron should be given straight As for his performance at prime minister's questions this year. Simon likens the encounters between Cameron and Gordon Brown to a bullfight in which the "poor stricken bull" - the prime minister - is wounded by arrows in his back from Cameron the picador.

Joining Nick round the table is Michael Gove, the shadow schools secretary who is one of the brains behind the Cameron operation. Michael says the Tories are doing well but they need to prepare themselves for a two-year wait for the general election and he warns that politics is "exceptionally volatile".

Jenni Russell, the Guardian columnist, says that the Tories are being cautious because voters do not like complacency. But she says it is difficult to imagine them losing the next election.

Julian Glover, the Guardian's chief leader writer, says Cameron has established a strong and sustained lead in the opinion. But Julian says the gap between the parties will eventually narrow.

We also talk to Richard Thaler, the co-author of Nudge, which is inspiring the Cameron Conservatives.
