Politics Weekly: A return to the 1970s?

For one week only politics weekly travels back to the 1970s - we've got two experts on the period to compare our days of unemployment, strike threats and very cold winters with those of that decade.

Andy Beckett does his bit to plug his book - When the Lights Went Out: What Really Happened to Britain in the Seventies - but nonetheless says there are differences between the two decades and has more praise for Jim Callaghan's crisis management than for Gordon Brown's.

Anne Perkins is no less gloomy about David Cameron. She's seen no ideological clarity that would suggest he is likely to become a latter day Thatcher but neither does she think he has the guile or vision to be a latter day Ted Heath.
