
The Government has said “high risk vendors” should be allowed to play a peripheral role in the UK’s 5G network – clearing the way for the limited involvement of Chinese firm Huawei.
Boris Johnson said the high-risk vendors should be limited to a minority presence of no more than 35 per cent in the periphery of the network, known as the access network, which connects devices and equipment to mobile phone masts.
It comes as the US presses Britain to ditch plans to use Huawei resources, as the nations prepare to hash out a fresh trade agreement post-Brexit.
Elsewhere, the Whitehall watchdog has brought Brexit advertising spending into question, suggesting a multi-million pound scheme encouraging preparedness had little impact.
