Ceramic figurines representing UK Prime Minister David Cameron , called “Caganers” during their presentation in Torroella de Montgri, near Gerona. Statuettes of well-known people defecating are a strong Christmas tradition in Catalonia, dating back to the 18th century as Catalans hide caganers in Christmas Nativity scenes and invite friends to find them. The figures symbolize fertilization, hope and prosperity for the coming year.

I am not writing my normal Politics Live blog today but, as an alternative, here’s Politics Live: readers’ edition. It’s intended to be a place where you can catch up with the latest news and find links to good politics blogs and articles on the web.

Please feel free to use this as somewhere you can comment on any of the day’s political stories - just as you do during the daily blog. It would be particularly useful for readers to flag up new material in the comments - breaking news or blogposts or tweets that are worth passing on because someone is going to find them interesting.

All today’s Guardian politics stories are here.

There’s an early start today because I’m off to give a talk to a school. And apologies if the picture puts anyone off their breakfast, but I thought you might find it interesting. It’s not a wind-up; apparently caganers are a Catalonian tradition.
