A Brexit deal between the UK and the EU to improve the Northern Ireland Protocol could be announced as soon as Monday, it has been claimed.

There is mounting speculation in Westminster that a deal could be close, with the two sides still locked in "intensive discussions".

Tory MPs have all been issued with a three-line whip requiring them to be in Parliament on Monday although parliamentary sources have stressed this is not unusual.

Meanwhile, Cabinet ministers have been told to be ready for a potential conference call on the terms of a deal this weekend, according to The Times.

Asked if a deal could be done this weekend, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman said at lunchtime: "We are still in intensive discussions with the European Union as the PM set out during PMQs on Wednesday. Those talks are continuing."

It came as James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary, suggested the UK Government will not agree a deal with the EU unless it addresses the concerns of the DUP.

He told Times Radio: "So when, hopefully, we get those issues resolved then I would hope that the DUP would recognise that we've addressed their concerns and until we have addressed those concerns we're not going to sign off on the deal."
