Politicians warn anyone tempted for a trip to Highland Perthshire over Easter weekend to stay away

Highland Perthshire politicians are calling on people tempted to visit the region during the Easter break to stay away.

Perth and North Perthshire MP Pete Wishart has joined forces with Perthshire North MSP John Swinney and Highland Perthshire councillor Mike Williamson to ask that people stay at home this Easter weekend.

Speaking yesterday (April 9), Mr Wishart said: “I understand that places like Pitlochry can seem tempting for the Easter weekend but please do not put lives at risk by thinking it is acceptable to nip out for a scenic drive.

“In line with government guidance, people should only be out of the house for essentials and exercise should be taken close to home.

“Please do not put our rural communities at risk for the sake of a day trip.

“Quashing the spread of this virus will help to save lives.”

MSP John Swinney added: “Although the holiday weekend, along with the potential for better weather, may make it tempting to venture further afield, it is vital that everyone continues to follow the clear government instructions.”

Councillor Williamson added: “Highland Perthshire is a particularly welcoming and scenic place to visit at the best of times, but please be assured that we will still be here after this pandemic is over. Stay indoors.”
