Politicians say don't be confused by UK message, Perthshire people stay home

Perthshire SNP politicians are urging Perth and Kinross residents to continue to stay at home.

Deputy first minister John Swinney has said the prime minister’s statement over the weekend caused a significant amount of confusion and worry.

Residents of Perth and Kinross are being urged to: “Stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives.”

Pitlochry objections to Premier Inn hotel proposal

Perthshire North MSP Mr Swinney said: “It is clear that the prime minister’s statement, and the UK Government’s new messaging as a whole, has caused a significant amount of confusion and worry.

“In Scotland, the First Minister has been consistent and clear: stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

Perth city centre councillor Eric Drysdale sits on the NHS Tayside board and chairs the Perth and Kinross Integration Joint Board. He said: “It’s really important that there’s clarity of message. For the avoidance of any doubt the Scottish Government message remains: Stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives.

“It’s unfortunate there’s now a slightly different message in England.

“In Scotland, in terms of the progress of coronavirus, we are not quite at the same stage, with it arriving slightly later here.”

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Scotland was on March 1. The first confirmed cases of COVID-19 in England were on January 29.
