Politician Linda Fabiani takes a tumble on the election trail

It wasn't an angry dog that scuppered an East Kilbride politician on the election trail this week.

Instead, an uneven footpath saw Linda Fabiani, who is retiring at the forthcoming Holyrood election, take a tumble.

This campaign is proving more dangerous than voters may have imagined - with Neil Gray, the SNP candidate for Airdrie and Shotts, bitten by a dog while leafleting yesterday.

Thankfully, Ms Fabiani, who was supporting the SNP candidate for East Kilbride, Collette Stevenson, was patched up by staff at Westwood Pharmacy and there was no serious damage.

Ms Fabiani posted on social media: "Makes a change from running away fae big dugs! All’s well."

She told Lanarkshire Live: "It was a bit of a calamity. I felt my foot going over in a hole on the path and it was one of those ones where you feel yourself going but can't stop. And down I went.

"Folk came over and helped me up and the staff at Westwood Pharmacy were great - it turned out that I knew two of the girls in there at the time.

She has been left with a sore ankle after the tumble (EKN)

"I must be tough as other than a swollen nose and a big lump on my ankle I'm OK.

"I have been swapping battle stories with Neil Gray after he got nipped by a dog. We're not having much luck!"

Collette Stevenson wrote: "First casualty of the campaign when poor @LindaFabianiSNP and I went to go leafleting. Linda took a tumble, cut her nose, twisted her ankle and that was before any leafleting got done."
