Politician 'blown away' by Balbriggan school's 'Stop Climate Chaos' initiative

Students who opted not to attend climate protests but have instead been sending out letters to politicians to act on the crisis have been hailed for their unique method of raising awareness.

While many other secondary school pupils took last Friday off to make their important message heard, others took a different approach - even remaining in class.

Loreto Secondary School in Balbriggan is being heavily praised for taking a stand with their own initiative which involved putting their thumbprints on letters to show support for action.

Finna Fail's Darragh O'Brien said he was "blown away" by the North Dublin school students on a recent visit and that they are "exactly what we need to see".

He said: ‘I would like to commend the students and staff in the Loreto Secondary School for taking their own stand to show their support for the recent climate marches by students across the world.

“I was blown away by the enthusiasm of students at the school on my recent visit to the school and this is exactly what we need to see, young minds engaging in a pro-active way with their local representatives to voice their concerns about the climate.

“A huge effort was put into this project from both the students and teaching staff in the Loreto Secondary School.

"Their decision to remain in school on the day of the worldwide protests is also highly commendable.

"They marked the day in their own special and highly productive way, which is extremely pro-active.”
