Polish president demands apology for German satire

The Polish government has demanded an apology from a daily German newspaper, Tageszeitung, for a satirical article which supposedly insulted Poland's president, Lech Kaczynski and his twin brother, Jaroslaw, who heads the ruling political party. The president described the piece, headlined "The New Polish Yokels", as "vile" and "disgusting." But the press freedom body, Reporters Without Borders called the Polish demand an "over-reaction" that is "unworthy of a European head of state". Insulting the president is punishable under Poland's criminal code by up to three years in jail. (Via masterpage.com)
