In a policy backflip, the Queensland Government is promising to air-condition every school classroom, library and staffroom by mid-2022.
After months of rejecting the LNP plan to provide air-conditioning to every classroom, Labor has now adopted it.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk used social media to announce that another 10,000 rooms in schools across the state would be fitted with air-conditioning.
"Cooler schools mean better results," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"Almost two thirds of Queensland state schools are already air-conditioned. Now we'll do the rest."
Ms Palaszczuk said the remaining 650 schools would be air-conditioned along with the installation of 80,000 roof top solar panels.
"Plus solar panels and maintenance funding creating 1,000 jobs," she said in a Facebook post.
State health minister, Steven Miles, defended the decision to backflip on the policy.
"We did start last year and that gave us some experience about what it would cost," Mr Miles told ABC Radio Brisbane.
"That rollout showed some of the difficulties in terms of a large number of schools needing to be air-conditioned very quickly and what that does to the market."
