A policewoman called to a fatal hit and run was horrified to discover the victim was her own father.
Senior Constable Sophie Thomson was making her way to work last Thursday when she stopped to help at the scene of a road accident.
After leaving her own vehicle to approach the scene, she was shocked and confused when police colleagues ushered her away - revealing the victim was actually her own father.
Sophie said her world "instantly broke" in that moment as she learned David Thomson, 60, had been struck and killed in the road in Delacombe, about an hour from Melbourne, Australia.
She said: “My world instantly broke. I had unknowingly attended my dad’s own crime scene.
“David was my father, my hero and my absolute rock."
In a tribute on social media, her brother Dylan wrote: “He was an absolute gentleman with a heart of gold and will be dearly missed by everyone he met.
“We will strive to make him proud every day and make sure his legacy lives on. I’m going to miss you man.”
Police are appealing for information on the driver who fled the scene.
They issued footage of a “silver coloured, sporty-like vehicle” showing a damaged windscreen and bonnet.
Detective Senior Constable Sandro Lombardi said the driver immediately fled, adding: "There was no braking. The driver cannot say he was unaware that it happened.
“The natural response is to stop and render assistance, but unfortunately on this occasion the driver has fled. It’s really a tragic set of circumstances.”
