Policeman fumes after clocking driver going 101mph on M5

A traffic police officer took to social media to bemoan the dangerous driving of one individual this weekend.

Numerous crashes have blighted people's travels on the motorways this weekend as hundreds headed away for a very warm Bank Holiday.

For large parts of the weekend the M5 has been heavily congested.

So it was likely with some shock that an officer read one car hurtling at 101mph on the carriageway.

The officer took to Twitter to show the reading on his car's equipment before issuing a warning to other drivers.

The incident happened just before 1.30pm on Sunday near Cullompton in Mid Devon.

The Devon and Cornwall and Dorset Roads Policing Team took to social media to vent their frustration at the driver in question.

"Please slow down drivers!!," they warned, showing a picture of their speed-measuring device.

"The M5 Cullompton is very busy and not safe to be travelling at this speed!!"

It is not clear if the driver responsible was apprehended at the time but it is likely they will receive a visit from the long arm of the law soon.
