Police: Youth soccer coach sent inappropriate texts to players

Nov. 04--A Bolingbrook youth soccer coach was charged with multiple felonies after he allegedly sent sexual text messages to players, according to Bolingbrook police.

Jason Lentz, 39, of Bolingbrook, was arrested Saturday and charged with indecent solicitation of a child, solicitation to meet a child and unlawful grooming, according to Will County state's attorney's office spokesman Charles Pelkie.

Lentz was a volunteer board member, vice president and travel coach for the Bolingbrook Soccer Club, according to police and club secretary Brian Stuchl.

Stuchl declined to comment on how long Lentz had volunteered with the club but said Monday that Lentz had been "suspended indefinitely."

Bolingbrook police were alerted Sept. 22 to reports of Lentz sending inappropriate text messages to juvenile girls who were part of the soccer club, according to Lt. Michael Rompa.

"A concerned mother" contacted authorities regarding the inappropriate text conversations, Pelkie said.

Lentz believed he was corresponding with a 13-year-old girl, according to Pelkie, and held "inappropriate text message conversations of a sexual nature."

But authorities had at one point taken over the minor's text message account during the monthlong investigation, Pelkie said.

Lentz's bond was set at $250,000 Monday, according to Pelkie.

If he posts bond, Lentz will have to surrender his passport and will not be allowed to have contact with the soccer club or anyone under age 18, Pelkie said.

"He also cannot use the Internet, except for work purposes," Pelkie said.

Lentz remained in jail as of late Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff's office website.
