Police would like to speak to this man after victim assaulted and robbed at Washington garage

Police want to speak to this man after a robbery victim was left with injuries to his face and head.

Officers investigating an assault and robbery at a petrol station in Washington have now released an image of a man they would like to trace.

At 2.15am on January 12, police were called to the Esso garage on Heworth Road, Usworth, after a report that a man had been assaulted.

It was then reported that the attacker also stole the victim’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

Officers found the man with injuries to his face and head.

An investigation is ongoing and as part of their inquiries, officers have now identified a man they would like to speak to.

He was believed to have been in the area at the time of the robbery and could have valuable information which would assist officers with their investigation.

The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to call  Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 98 120120.

Anyone with information about the incident can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
