Police worker allegedly impersonated a cop

A 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with impersonating a NSW police officer. (AAP)

A civilian employee of the NSW Police Force will face court next month accused of impersonating a police officer at a fast-food outlet.

Police were notified on Tuesday afternoon that a man had allegedly impersonated an officer in the state's north and provided inaccurate information about COVID-19 to a fast-food restaurant.

The 44-year-old, who is attached to a command in the Northern Region, was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer and conveying false information that a person or property is in danger.

NSW Police would not confirm where the incident had taken place.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Maitland Local Court on September 15.

His employment status is under review.
