Police who spotted Bury man 'acting suspiciously' found pile of amphetamines at his home

Police who spotted a man in Bury 'acting suspiciously' soon found out why - after discovering a stash of cash and suspected drugs at his home.

The 48-year-old was stopped by officers on Friday, March 19, and a later search of his home turned up bags of what is thought to be amphetamines, as well as money.

The cash and drugs were seized and he was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply illegal substances.

The arrest was part of Bury's Operation Pevek, a local, targeted response to serious violent crime.

The project falls under Operation Sycamore – GMP’s overall effort to tackling serious violent crime, with a particular emphasis on knife crime.

Insp Gareth Edwards, of GMP's Bury district, said: "Drugs blight and negatively impact our communities. This arrest means we have taken even more illegal substances off the streets and made it a safer place for local residents.

"Our officer's efforts and commitment to tackling the issue of drugs continues, and I would encourage members of the public with any information about drugs or suspicious activity in their area to let us know at the earliest possible opportunity."

The 48-year-old has been released pending further investigation, with police enquiries continuing.

Anyone with information for police should call 101.
