Police watching Bristol city centre roundabout because some drivers aren't stopping at red light

A roundabout notorious for red light jumpers is now being watched by police.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police were stationed at Old Market roundabout yesterday (Tuesday, November 12) and caught six offenders.

The force decided to target the city centre route following a number of complaints about motorists jumping lights and putting lives at risk.

Roadworks have been taking place at the busy roundabout for a number of months which has caused major delays in the area.

A spokesperson for the force's road safety team tweeted:: "Officers from @ASPBristol have been present at Old Market roundabout following concern of drivers not complying with red lights.

"Six drivers will be contacted as a result and observations also passed to @BristolCouncil highways. What are your experiences of this roundabout?

Responding to the post, one person tweeted: "Come to the junction of Stokes Croft, Ashley Road & Cheltenham Road and I'm 100% certain you'd catch light jumpers, phone users & speeders in a short time. Please do accept my challenge."
