Police watchdog launch major investigation after Scots cop car chase ends in horror crash

The Police watchdog has launched a major investigation after a cop car chase near Perth ended in a horror crash that has left four teenagers in hospital.

Two 14-year-old girls and two boys, aged 14 and 16, were the only people in the orange Vauxhall Corsa that failed to stop on the A90 between Dundee and Perth.

Officers from Police Scotland gave chase to the hatchback which flipped on the A90 near St Madoes at around 1.55pm yesterday.

Ambulances rushed the four teenagers to Ninewells Hospital, in Dundee, for treatment.

The two girls are said to have 'serious injuries' while the boys have been treated for minor injuries.

Today a police spokesman declined to comment on the investigation by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.

But they did confirm the matter had been reported to the independent body for consideration “as is standard in such cases”.

We told yesterday how parts of the major route were closed as the incident was investigated.

It reopened shortly after 11pm following a probe of the scene.

Cops are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Michelle Burns said: "Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who may have seen the Vauxhall Corsa or the police vehicles in Perth, on the A912 through Bridge of Earn or on the A90 are asked to come forward.

"We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage.

"Any information can be passed to police by calling 101, quoting incident 2040 of 20 February."
