Police warning to parents after 'large group of teenagers met to fight on field'

A large group of teenagers met to fight on a field in Sale.

Police were alerted to a large group of girls and boys gathering on Weathercock Farm playing fields, off Firs Road, on Wednesday.

When officers arrived to the scene the teenagers ran away.

It became apparent the group were meeting to take part in an organised fight, with a number of teenagers turning up to watch.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Police are urging parents in Trafford South to contact their children and to make sure they are not in large groups.

A post on Facebook said there were still a number of teenagers still in the area and surrounding streets on Wednesday evening.

The post, on the Greater Manchester Police Trafford South page, said: "A number of reports have been made of a large gathering of youths (girls & boys) on Weathercock Farm playing fields, off Firs Road, Sale.

"On police arrival a number of youths run away.

"Information passed was that it was a planned fight with a number of spectators.

"Can I ask you make contact with your child and make sure they are not in a large gathering, to prevent any further incidents which may involve your child being a victim of crime and can you ask them to return home.

"There are a number of youths still in the area around Sale in surrounding streets and I am sure there will be further incidents with these youths tonight."
