Police warning over latest TikTok trend encouraging kids to hammer down stranger's doors

Yobs are filming themselves smashing in people's front doors and then running away as part of a bizarre new TikTok craze that has resulted in police across the country issuing warnings.

The video-sharing platform is awash with clips of youngsters stamping on doors, with some smashing clean open.

Last week, a police force in Wales issued a warning over the "disgraceful" behaviour.

North Wales Police's Gwynedd North policing team uploaded a video of youngsters kicking a front door to their Facebook page on Friday and said the behaviour is on the rise and is "causing people to be fearful in their homes."

Now, as the TikTok trend spreads, Hertfordshire Police have followed suit after reports of the same behaviour in Hemel Hempstead.

Police in the Dacorum district cited "several reports" of "young people banging on or kicking down strangers’ doors in what are thought to be pranks."

In one incident, police said, an elderly person’s front door was damaged, leaving them frightened and having to pay for repairs.

They added that in another, a door was kicked open and left insecure when the resident was out, leaving the property vulnerable to burglary.

PCSO Sarah Rex, from the Dacorum Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It’s really disappointing to think that there are some young people in Hemel Hempstead that are taking part in this irresponsible behaviour.

“We want our young people to enjoy their half term break, but their actions should not be at the expense of innocent members of the public."

PCSO Rex added that her team is working with local secondary schools to stamp out the behaviour, but added that parents need to have a word with their teens as the schools are limited in what they can do during half term.

“Please ask them how they would feel if it was their Nan or Grandad who had been targeted. It’s not just a bit of fun – it is frightening, anti-social and, in some cases, illegal," she added.

"We will be investigating each report and looking to identify those involved before taking appropriate action."

One viral TikTok clip, viewed more than a million times in four days, shows two males with their hoods up as they descend a flight of steps and appear to kick a front door open somewhere in the UK.

Kesha's song Die Young is used as a backing track to the selfish stunts, as youngsters kick doors in time to the lyrics.

As she sings "I hear your heart beat to the beat of drums", louts kick the door twice to make banging noises.

In a similar statement to that of PCSo Rex, Sgt Non Edwards of Gwynedd North Policing team said: "We have had an increase of calls reporting this stupid act which is causing people to be fearful in their homes.

"I would ask all parents - do you know where your children are and what they are doing - how would you feel if they did this to your parent or grandparent?"
