Police warning following reports man is scamming people in Stockport by pretending his father is sick

Police have issued a warning following reports a man has been scamming people by pretending his father is sick in hospital.

The man, thought to be in his 50s, was asking for money from people on Finney Lane, in Heald Green, Stockport.

He told victims he needed money to see his father in hospital, who had recently suffered a heart attack.

Officers warned the method has been used by scammers many times in the Greater Manchester area and told people to be careful who they hand over their money to.

A post on the Greater Manchester Police Cheadle and Bramhall page said: "We've recently received a report of a white male in his 50's asking for money on Finney Lane, Heald Green.

"The male stated he needed money to get to hospital to see his father, who had recently had a heart attack.

"This method has been used many times in the Greater Manchester area.

"Please be aware of who you are willingly handing money to."
