Police warning as teenage girl collapses and dies 'after taking MDMA'

Police have issued a warning to drug users after a teenage girl died from taking what was believed to be MDMA.

Officers have launched an investigation after the teen collapsed in a car park at about 9.30pm on Saturday night.

She was rushed to hospital where she died.

Detective Inspector Jon Sygrove, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "This is an incredibly sad and tragic event and police inquiries are ongoing to determine the events around the girl's death.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.

"As our investigation continues, I'd advise anyone who has purchased MDMA recently to be cautious about taking it.

"If you have already taken the drug and feel unwell, please seek medical assistance immediately."

The force said inquiries are ongoing to determine if the drug led to the teenager's death, which happened in Northallerton.

DI Sygrove also appealed to witnesses who were in the car park to come forward.

He said anyone with information should call the force control room on 101 quoting reference 12190085105.
