Police warning as Extinction Rebellion to march through Bath city centre and 'lie down'

Police have issued a warning over an Extinction Rebellion (XR) event in Bath.

Avon and Somerset police say there may be disruption in the city centre tomorrow (Saturday, August 17) due to a protest by the environmental campaigners.

The group has been staging demonstrations in a bid to raise awareness of the 'climate emergency', including blocking roads in Bristol last month.

XR's 'Breathe in Bath' event is set to take place between 10.30am and 2pm.

There will be an anti-pollution procession, starting at 11am, which will head to Bath Abbey, where there will be a 10-minute 'lie down' protest.

The march will then continue to Queens Square, where the campaigners are due to arrive at 12pm for a set of speeches.

Organisers have been working with Bath and North East Somerset Council, emergency services and other partner agencies to minimise disruption, police have said.
