Police warning after yobs throw stones at moving cars in Durham

Police are appealing to parents for help after youths throw stones at moving vehicles in County Durham.

Durham Constabulary said officers have responded to seven reports of anti-social behaviour in just a 24-hour period.

This included youths throwing stones at moving vehicles, resulting in significant damage in a spate of anti-social behaviour incidents in the Shotton Colliery area.

Where there is significant damage, criminal investigations are now under way to identify the individuals involved.

Peterlee Police are now appealing for help from parents to have "serious conversations" with their children about the possible consequences.

Sergeant David Watson, of Peterlee Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "Not only is the damage being caused unacceptable, but so is the possibility of there being far more serious consequences.

"Throwing things at moving vehicles is incredibly dangerous, and I’d urge anybody thinking of doing it to think very carefully about the effect it could have not just on the vehicles, but on the drivers and passengers.

"I’d also like to appeal to parents to consider where their children are and what they might be doing, and to have a serious conversation with them about the consequences of actions like these."

Anyone with any information should contact the police.
