Police warning after wave of car thefts

A wave of car break-ins has led to police issuing a warning to owners.

Motorists in areas across St Helens reported having items stolen from their cars outside their homes in recent days.

Police have urged car owners to make sure that they keep their vehicles locked and don't leave any valuables in their vehicles unattended.

Areas of Newton-Le-Willows, Blackbrook, Haresfinch and Laffak have all been struck by the thefts,

They also warned of devices that potential thieves can use to gain entry to vehicles by using the signal from owner's car keys, urging motorists to consider getting a pouch or box which can block the signal when the keys are placed inside.

A statement from Merseyside Police said: "We’ve had a spate of theft from motor vehicles in the areas of Newton-Le-Willows, Blackbrook, Haresfinch and Laffak overnight. We’ve managed to reunite one victim with a few belongings but there’s still outstanding property and possibly more residents that haven’t reported these incidents to the police.

"If you have been a victim of a theft from motor vehicle, or you have CCTV of any potential offenders of these crimes, please report this via our usual channels - calling 101 or reporting via our website.

"Just a reminder - please ensure all vehicles are locked and that you do not leave valuables in your vehicles. Furthermore, consider getting a signal blocking device (pouch or box) to stop offenders gaining access to your cars via a signal to your keys."
