Police warning after three separate incidents of men approaching schoolchildren in South Bristol

Police in South Bristol are investigating three separate incidents of men approaching and talking to schoolchildren from inside vehicles in the past fortnight.

Detectives are looking into whether the three different reports are linked, and neighbourhood officers have been carrying out 'reassurance visits' at three schools across the south of the city.

Earlier today, October 1, Bristol Live reported what is thought to be the most recent case, which involved a girl being approached and spoken to by two men sitting in a car near the Oasis Academy in Brislington.

That incident happened on Wednesday morning (September 30).

Now police have confirmed they have been looking into two other similar accounts elsewhere in South Bristol, over the past week or so.

A police spokesperson declined to say which two other schools were involved.

They said: "We’ve received reports of three incidents which have taken place during the past two weeks of men talking to children from inside vehicles.

"Neighbourhood officers have carried out reassurance visits at three South Bristol schools following a small number of suspicious incidents in the area.

"We continue to investigate the reports and are looking into whether they are linked. As part of our inquiry officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area while they’ve also conducted house to house enquiries.

"We would encourage parents and careers to remind children what to do if they are approached by a suspicious stranger: shout to draw the attention of others or run home or to the nearest busy public place and tell an adult straight away.

"Anyone with any concerns about these incidents is encouraged to speak to a patrolling neighbourhood officer or call the neighbourhood team via 101."
