Police have issued a warning after scammers targeted a home in Radcliffe.
Officers say two people visited an address in the area claiming to be from a boiler company.
They asked if they could carry out a gas safety check.
When they failed to provide any proof of ID, they were asked to leave.
The would-be victim then checked the visit with the housing association. It was confirmed they had not sent any workmen that day.
A spokesman for GMP said: “Male and female have attended an address in Radcliffe claiming to be boiler service persons, wanting to carry out a gas safety check.
“The male pulled out his phone and started to waffle on about who had booked them.
“They had no ID so they were asked to leave.
“On checking with the Housing Association, they confirmed they had not sent any workmen that day.
“Do not let any persons into your address without ID or confirming that the company or housing association has sent them.
“If you wish to report an incident or crime please call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
