Police warning after car flips onto its side in Lowdham

Nottinghamshire Police are warning drivers to take care in the rain after they attended a flipped car in Lowdham on Monday evening.

Police took to Instagram to warn drivers about the heavy rainfall and its affects on driving after attending an incident.

They said: "With heavy rain and torrential conditions affecting many parts of the county this evening, our officers are reminding the public to take extra care if travelling on the roads.

"Standing water is forming in many parts of the county - especially in rural areas and small villages - so please allow extra travelling time.

"Our officers have attended this road traffic collision in the Lowdham area this evening. Fortunately nobody was injured during the incident."

They added: "Remember, speed limits are in place for a reason: they aren’t targets and when conditions present greater risks of collisions, such as poor weather conditions, you should adjust your speed accordingly.

"Increase the distance between yours and other road users vehicles, which will give you more time to stop should hazards present themselves.

"Avoid areas which are likely to, or are known to flood.

"If your car begins to hydroplane, do not brake or turn the wheel abruptly as this may cause your vehicle to go into a skid or spin.

"Drive in the tracks of the car in front of you."
