Police warning after arrested man found with sweets - which turned out to contain cannabis chemical

A man who was arrested yesterday was found with sweets in his belongings - they were found to contain traces of cannabis.

In a Facebook post, GMP officers in Failworth and Hollinwood said they conducted a search of the man who was arrested for an unrelated manner, and following closer inspection, they discovered the sweet treats contained THC.

THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, is a psychoactive chemical found in cannabis.

Following recent concerns of children eating the sweets and in some cases ending up receiving treatment in hospital, GMP are urging for people to be vigilant.

They said that whilst there was no evidence that could prove the cannabis sweets, including 'Medicated Nerds' and 'Stoner Patch Dummies' were being sold, they 'could' be in circulation in the Failsworth and Hollinwood area.

It was also suggested that the drug was modified by a third party, rather than being added at the manufacturing stage.

In the post, GMP Failsworth & Hollinwood said: "BEWARE: Yesterday a man was arrested for an unrelated matter, but in his belongings he had, what appear to be sweets (picture below) but when you read the label they contain THC (cannabis).

"It has recently been in the national newspapers where children/youths have eaten these and in some cases have ended up in hospital.

"There is no evidence at this time to prove that these have been sold or given out to any persons, but these COULD be in circulation in the area.

"There is also nothing to suggest that this was added at the manufacturing stage, but was modified by a third party thereafter.

"Please be vigilant. Thank you."
